My Studio

I've been building a small collection of microphones, mostly from the 1960s, and shifting away from modern 48V phantom power systems. Instead, I work with 12T Tonader power through Kleintuchel connectors, using SQN preamps to keep that older signal path alive. Some microphones operate at 8.4V and respond with extreme sensitivity.

Recently, I acquired a seismic contact microphone, which I’ve started using to capture unconventional and highly textured sound sources.

Use 8 X AA (UM-3) size cells and observe polarity.
Battery life ends at 6V. The use of alkaline-manganese or other
high capacity cells is advisable for maximum battery life.

The input terminals float with respect to the SQN-5S ground
and either (or neither) side may be grounded at will.
